Vinarija Deurić

Falstaff Online Österreich 2023 - Weingüter - Osteuropa

About 100 kilometers north of Belgrade lies the Frusca Gora wine-growing region, a picturesque landscape that is considered the most beautiful of Serbia's wine-growing regions and therefore enjoys the protection of a nature park for the common good. And this region, where even the Roman Emperor Probus had wine cultivated, is home to Vinarija Deuric. This is a highly modern winery that could rightly be described as state-of-the-art. The fact that must or wine is moved almost solely with the help of gravity is not standard in Western European wineries, but this avoids the need for pumping. In the continental climate of Frusca Gora, which is tempered by the Danube, the estate's vines grow in carefully selected parcels, most of which have a perfect southern exposure. The international varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer are cultivated for white wine, as well as Merlot and Pinot Noir, which are bottled as single varietals. Particular specialties are the red wines from Morava and Probus, an indigenous new variety in honour of the Emperor Probus, which is only cultivated in Frusca Gora and received its approval in 1983. The Axiom cuvée, consisting of Probus, Merlot, Marcellin and Petit Verdot, and a rosé wine round out the portfolio. The wines are mostly matured in new or used barriques, which await their destiny in a modern and spectacular barrique cellar. Tasting the wines should be worthwhile, judging by the ratings they receive, Vinarija Deuric is probably one of the best wineries in Serbia.
