The maximum 100 milliliter limit for liquids in hand luggage could soon be a thing of the past: In early August, the European Union (EU) approved new scanners that detect liquid explosives much more precisely than previous systems. This means that larger bottles will be permitted in hand luggage in the future. The actual adoption of the new technology is now a matter for the airports. As the new security scanners are comparatively expensive, blanket introduction could be delayed.
