'Julie & Julia' author Julie Powell dies at 49

US writer Julie Powell, who became famous for writing about her quest to cook every recipe in Julia Child's cookbook, has died at the age of 49.

Powell's popular 2002 blog about her Julie/Julia Project formed the basis of her memoir called Julie & Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously. The book was adapted for the 2009 hit film starring Meryl Streep as Julia Child and Amy Adams as Julie.
