As early as 1296, the so-called “December Market” opened its doors in the Austrian capital, laying the foundation for a tradition that spread across Europe and eventually the world. Today, Vienna transforms numerous squares into sparkling Advent markets each year, from Schönbrunn Palace and Spittelberg to the iconic Rathausplatz in front of Vienna's City Hall.
