New boutique hotel in Venice: luxury on the lagoon at Ca' di Dio

Even before its official opening, Ca' di Dio made headlines. As a new boutique hotel in Venice, it auctioned off the first night to the highest bidder. Now it is regularly open.

Once again, rich history and contemporary design come together in Venice. In this case, it is the Madrid star designer Patricia Urquiola who has breathed new life into an almost 800-year-old palazzo. The new Ca' di Dio boutique hotel is now the perfect address for design and architecture fans, located in the Arsenale art district. Of course, it made headlines even before its official opening.

First night auctioned

One lucky winner got to experience the new boutique hotel in Venice a week before all the guests. He was the highest bidder and auctioned the first night at Ca' di Dio for the equivalent of around 2,800 euros. For some time now, the luxurious five-star hotel in the heart of the lagoon city has also been available for regular bookings. The guests of the design jewel, which belongs to the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, can expect the finest Italian craftsmanship. This includes mouth-blown Murano chandeliers as well as unique pieces from the Studio Urquiola in Milan.

"My aim was to create an original and distinctive concept," says the designer, "a Venetian villa deeply linked to the history of the city, with precious woods, rich textiles, colors, finishes and Murano glass; every decorative, architectural and lighting element is the result of the skilled hands of craftsmen who combine the passion for their work with the secrets and techniques of Venetian tradition." The new boutique hotel thus pays homage to the (art) history and culture of La Serenissima. But the highlights don't stop there.

New boutique hotel in Venice with ideal location

In addition to the interior, it is also the location that impresses travelers. Important sights such as St. Mark's Square, the Rialto Bridge and Arsenale are all within walking distance. The 57 suites and nine deluxe rooms boast wonderful views. Guests can also enjoy these from the main restaurant "VERO". From here, the view extends across the lagoon to the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. On the plates, the "VERO" impresses with Venetian and Mediterranean dishes. Lighter dishes are on the menu at "Essentia" in the inner courtyard. And the best place to enjoy an evening cocktail is the "Alchemia" bar.

Relaxed Italian lifestyle is not only on the agenda in the restaurants and in the bar. Even the arrival is leisurely and takes place in style with a water taxi. Guests can also enjoy moments of tranquillity in the spacious spa area of the Spa Pura. From the roof terrace, the view sweeps over the roofs of the lagoon city, while you indulge in mental distraction with a good book in the hotel's own library.
