Is this the Most Beautiful Hotel Opening in St. Moritz this Fall?
La Margna has been part of the St. Moritz townscape for 120 years. Now, after several years of renovation, it opens its iconic doors as a new luxury hotel.
It towers directly above the train station and is a familiar sight to all travelers who have ever been to St. Moritz: It's the building designed by Swiss architect Nicolaus Hartmann, which welcomed its guests as a hotel for the first time in 1906. Since 2016, work has now been devoted to the conversion. The London-based architectural firm Divercity Architects and an investment sum of over 90 million Swiss francs turned the hotel legend into a new shooting star. As a new luxury hotel in St. Moritz, it naturally offers only the best of everything.

Light-footed elegance
Schon der (neue!) Beiname “Grace” verrät, was hinter der Design-Philosophie der Renovierung steckt. Denn einerseits ist das Haus nun ein Ensemble, das für Eleganz, Grazie and grace. It is thought and lived forward, however, without giving up the historical heritage to forget. To unite opposites and to create the balancing act between young and old, dynamic and quiet on all levels is the claim of the new five-star superior hotel.
“Das GRACE LA MARGNA ST MORITZ ist kein klassisches Luxushotel”, beteuert daher auch General Manager David Frei. “Wir streben an, das erste Luxury Lifestyle & Boutique Hotel in St. Moritz zu werden.” Dieser Anspruch endet aber nicht bei den Renovierungsarbeiten oder den insgesamt 74 Zimmern und Suiten. Man möchte die Dinge hier anders angehen, überraschen und ein besonders personal, close service offer.
United by contrast
The whole is packaged in an ensemble that includes the historic LA MARGNA WING and the new GRACE WING. Both parts are connected with a glazed passage. Landscape features were taken into account for the new building; it plays with the hillside site, which offers views of Lake St. Moritz. Terraces and the possibility to connect the rooms in a variety of ways give the building component a special charm. Ceiling-high windows and open interiors are a counterpoint to the dark, wood-clad chalets of the surrounding area.
The penthouse on the top floor is already considered a highlight. It offers three bedrooms and enough space for a large family on 260 square meters of living space. A private Jacuzzi and a large roof terrace complete the suite. The spirit of the birth of winter tourism revives in the 47 rooms and suites of LA MARGNA WING again. The result looks so harmonious due to the visionary creativity of Nikolas Travasaros and his colleagues from Divercity Architects.
Pleasure with refinement
Of course, a new luxury hotel in St. Moritz must not disappoint on the culinary level. And the GRACE LA MARGNA doesn't do that either. Multiple restaurants are available to choose from. They cater to different dietary preferences with different concepts. This guarantees that both meat eaters and vegans will experience culinary moments of pleasure. The landmark Lobby Lounge celebrates cocktail culture, theatrical performances, and premium spirits.
Cosmetic brands such as La Biosthetique or EXNIHILO are used. While from the spa the view of the surrounding mountain peaks fällt und die Gedanken frei werden, kann man ja schonmal seinen nächsten Skitag im Wintersportmekka St. Moritz planen …
