Forget complicated desserts—yogurt and cookies are all you need for the viral no-bake cheesecake craze sweeping TikTok and Instagram. Just two ingredients and a night in the fridge transform them into a creamy treat reminiscent of cheesecake. We tested both the classic version and one with a tiramisu twist. Do they live up to the hype?

Stripped shelves at the supermarket? Greek yogurt’s gone missing—and you’re not alone. The culprit is a viral social media sensation: Japanese yogurt cheesecake. This no-bake treat—based on just two ingredients—is exploding on Instagram, TikTok, and beyond, turning a humble yogurt pot and Biscoff cookies overnight into creamy bliss reminiscent of cheesecake, or so the hype claims.

Does it actually taste like the real thing?

The concept couldn’t be simpler: Yogurt meets cookies. We have put the Japanese yogurt cheesecake to the test. To test the trend, we made a classic version using plain yogurt and Biscoff cookies, alongside a tiramisu-inspired alternative that blends yogurt with espresso and finishes with a dusting of cocoa powder.

Stir the yogurt until smooth in a container. For the tiramisu version, fold in a generous shot of espresso. Press the cookies firmly into the yogurt, sprinkle with cookie crumbs or a dusting of cocoa, and chill for several hours—overnight works best. The cookies soak up the moisture, giving the cheesecake more texture. We whipped up three portions in under ten minutes.

Flavor-wise, the results were mixed but mostly positive. The classic version didn’t quite pass for real cheesecake, yet won us over with its mild, creamy sweetness. The tiramisu variation, however, was a clear standout—espresso added depth, while cocoa delivered a rich, bittersweet contrast.

Room for Improvement

A simple upgrade: vanilla sugar stirred into the yogurt. Sweeter, yes—but it adds welcome dimension. Consider it our next test.”

Healthy? Not Quite

TikTok touts it as healthy or high-protein—especially with skyr. But make no mistake: The cookies carry plenty of hidden sugar. This isn’t a fully guilt-free snack—but it is refreshingly simple to prepare.

Verdict

Test passed. Japanese yogurt cheesecake delivers on flavor with minimal effort—cheesecake purists, look away. Instant gratification seekers, beware: the real magic happens overnight.
