Looking for a midnight snack during the ESC week? These Viennese restaurants serve food after midnight
Whether it's a late shift, being bogged down in the bar, or just not being able to sleep, there are many reasons why you might want to eat something warm after midnight. Whatever your reason, there are plenty of places in Vienna where you can get a warm meal after midnight. Falstaff looked into where you can do this in Vienna.
For a city of millions like Vienna, the culinary offerings available after midnight are, admittedly, limited. You can find Asian snack bars, kebab and pizza stalls at almost every major underground station, but it can be more difficult to find somewhere to sit down and eat. There are many reasons for a late-night snack, from a long day at work to an evening with friends that has got a little out of hand.
As well as the ever-popular Viennese sausage stands, there are still plenty of late-night options – you just have to look for them.
Hannelore Bar
Schnitzel Bites, Truffle Fries or Sweet Potato Fries: At the "Hannelore Bar" in the city centre of Vienna, a cocktail bar with a living room atmosphere, you can enjoy a small selection of snacks alongside the extensive drinks menu, available all night long. The bar is open from Tuesday to Saturday until 4 am.
Leberkas-Pepi
After a night of partying, you might want something a little heartier. Whether classic with chilli or unusual with spinach and garlic, the traditional Linz-based company lets its imagination run wild when creating its Leberkäse varieties. The Operngasse branch is open until 2am from Thursday to Saturday.

Speisekammer
In recent years, Viennese sausage stands have experienced something of a revival. This has been driven by the introduction of meat-free options and a focus on organic produce and sustainability. One of these is the 'Speisekammer' on Urban-Loritz-Platz, which serves smash burgers and homemade sauces. It is open until 1:30 a.m. from Sunday to Thursday and until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Thell
You can get food at »Thell« until the early hours of the morning. It was the first restaurant in Vienna to serve food for such late hours. The menu includes dishes such as saffron risotto, steak and baked ham dumplings with truffle carpaccio. The Schönbrunner Straße restaurant is open until 2 a.m. from Tuesday to Saturday.
Café Europa
Zollergasse is the heart of social life in the district of Neubau, and Café Europa is right in the middle of it all. It's a reliable place to enjoy good atmosphere, people-watching and great food. You can sample your way through the menu here until 4 a.m. every day.

Wiener Würstelstand
With two sausage stands, the »Wiener Würstelstand« has become a permanent fixture among the capital's sausage stands. In addition to the vegan options, which made up the entire menu in January as part of a Veganuary campaign, the focus is on organic produce. The two stands are also popular with revellers thanks to the evening programme. On Fridays and Saturdays, Bosna, Käsekrainer and similar products are served until 1 a.m.
