The Great British Bake Off is back
The legendary baking tent opens once more: from September 2, The Great British Bake Off will be shaking up the culinary world yet again.
The wait is over: The new season of The Great British Bake Off starts on September 2, 2025! Already in its 16th season, the successful format will see twelve passionate amateur bakers will be battling it out over the next ten weeks, each of them aiming to prove themselvves the best baker of the round.
As usual, there are three parts per episode: the Signature, the Technical Bake (blind tasting) and the Showstopper. Joining them again are judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, as well as co-hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond.
Who are the candidates?
The list of candidates reads like a bizarre Who's Who: a software engineer, a medical student, two hairdressers, a powerlifter and a bridal designer. The twelve contestants in the current season are between 23 and 59 years old and come from England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The format is particularly proud of its diversity: Nataliia, the first Ukrainian on the show, has a particularly moving backstory.
With a lot of emotion in the trailers and lots of mishaps in the bakery, Hammond teases with mix-ups that lead to shocked reactions, while Fielding comments on the contestants' baking skills: "That doesn't look like baking to me, that looks like science," People reports.
Land of cake and glory
Since the first season aired in 2009, "Bake Off" has been more than just a simple cooking show – it's a cult phenomenon. Critics speak of a gentle escape from everyday life; a calm, relaxing alternative to the many reality TV formats. The Great British Bake Off focuses on sweet suspense and small dramas, such as a cake that was forgotten in the oven or an incorrectly set oven temperature.
The show is also a talent factory for rising baking stars – from Nadiya Hussain to Peter Sawkins – and has opened the world of patisserie to a wider, more diverse audience. The bake-off world doesn't take itself too seriously – and that is the secret of its success.
