Boat to go: Uber expands travel offer to include boat rentals

Mediterranean Sea

"Uber" brings vacations to the water. From June 2026, it will be possible to book boats directly via the app for the first time in the Mediterranean region - from spontaneous trips to coastal tours in southern Europe's most popular vacation regions.

The new "Uber Boat" service will be launched in mid-June 2026 and is primarily aimed at travelers who want to get on the water easily while on vacation. In future, it will be possible to book boats directly via the app in selected regions of southern Europe - along the coasts of Portugal, Spain, Italy, France and Croatia. The partner is the boat rental platform "Click&Boat", which contributes a fleet of over 55,000 boats to the cooperation.

How the boat rental works

However, the offer does not work entirely according to the classic "Uber" principle; a separate "Boat" area will appear in the app, from which users will be redirected to the "Click&Boat" booking. The actual reservation and processing continues there - including identical prices as on the platform itself.

The focus is on guided day trips with a skipper, so no boating license is required. Instead of self-driving, the focus is on organized tours along the coast, for example to remote bays, islands or for sunset cruises. Various experiences are planned on the water - from relaxed aperitifs on board to small water sports excursions.

River cruises already bookable on the Thames

The idea is not entirely new; in London, the Uber Boat by Thames Clippers has been operating a water bus on the Thames for some time, more comparable to public transportation on the water. There have also been seasonal water offers in cities such as Venice or on Greek islands in the past. What is new is the expansion to classic vacation regions in the Mediterranean and the close connection to a large booking platform.
