More bling: Dubai plans road made of real gold
The city of superlatives is going one better: A street made of gold is to be built in the desert metropolis and become the new spectacular tourist attraction.
It is well known that Dubai has a "gold finger". The metropolis loves to shine; whether in the Gold Souk, with its gold-mirrored facades or the city-defining Golden Frame work of art. Now a street made entirely of the precious metal is set to become the new tourist hotspot.
As reported by the news channel Euronews, among others, the metropolis on the Persian Gulf has announced the construction of a street whose design is based on real gold. It is to become the centerpiece of a new city quarter and further cement Dubai's reputation as a stage for superlatives.
New chapter for the Dubai Gold District
The project is part of the emerging Dubai Gold District, which is being realized in the historic district of Deira. Deira is one of the oldest districts in the city and was the economic center of Dubai for decades. Even today, the quarter is internationally renowned for the Gold Souk, one of the most important precious metal markets in the world.
The planned Gold District will be much more than just a shopping area. Over a thousand stores are planned, with an assortment ranging from jewelry and precious metals to perfumes, cosmetics and high-quality lifestyle products. The ensemble will be complemented by six hotels with around a thousand rooms, which will provide guests with direct access to the new quarter.
At the center of the area is the so-called Goldstraße. It is not intended as a traffic axis, but as a staging area - a new selfie hotspot.
In Dubai, gold is much more than a decorative element: it is an integral part of the local identity and stands for economic success, commercial spirit and cultural continuity. It is precisely this combination of tradition and innovation that Dubai wants to make visible with the new quarter.
The Dubai Media Office intends to publish concrete details on the implementation in the coming months.
