The red wine variety Kakhet is a grape variety that is widespread in Armenia today, but it most likely comes from the Kakheti region in Georgia, as the name suggests. The late-ripening variety has medium-sized, compact grapes. In Armenia, Kakhet is used to produce dry and semi-dry red wines, but also heavy, sweet wines. The red dessert wine Kagor is known beyond the country's borders. Nothing is known about the extent of vineyards in Armenia, and no other vineyards outside the country are currently identified.
