Skrlet is a white wine variety from the Zagreb area and still plays a role in northern Croatia today. Its origin is probably in the Moslavina and Pokuplje regions, southeast of Zagreb. The name is probably derived from the German word or the disease scarlet fever. This does not mean that the variety constantly suffers from diseases, but only refers to the red spots that the grape skins have when fully ripe. The Skrlet is vigorous, but produces moderate, but stable and calculable yields. The fact that the Skrlet is less susceptible to all kinds of vine diseases is of course an advantage for winegrowers. It sprouts late and reaches full maturity after a medium to long ripening period. In and of itself, the Srklet is only permitted in Moslavina, Prigorje-Bilogora and Pokuplje. However, it is becoming increasingly popular, which is generating higher demand. In this respect, it will probably also find its way into the list of grape varieties in other Croatian regions. Most of the time, the expansion takes place in a single-variety manner. There are no occurrences of this variety outside Croatia.
This grape variety is also known by the name of:
Kanigi gruner, Kanigl Grüner, Ovnek Zuti, Ovinek Slatki, Skrlec, Skrlet Bijeli, Skrlet tusti, Osukac, Vinek zuti, Zutak
