Aniseed spirits are clear and transparent in the bottle, but if you mix them with water, the distillates quickly become cloudy
one: the louche effect. The essential oils of anise are only poorly or not at all soluble in water. When mixed with water, they form countless tiny drops, which make the drink appear milky and cloudy.
