"International Cuisine" Restaurants in Slovenia
The popular restaurant got off to a flying start again with Mojmir Šiftar. The young chef reinterprets Slovenian tradition and develops an innovative style from it. However, the well-known Pen Club classics are also upheld, such as the flambéed duck liver.
A bistro with a casual flair. The menu offers far more than just trendy dishes. Head chef Gregor Jelnikar gives guests the choice: bistro lunches, gourmet snacks or tasting menus with up to nine courses - everything is possible. The wine list with a focus on natural wines is a perfect match.
The address is posh, but the atmosphere is relaxed. Thanks to Simon Bertoncelj, who honed his skills with Gordon Ramsay, Marc Meurin and Bobby Bräuer. The tasting menu is correspondingly professional. The view of Lake Bled can also keep up with the standard.
David Vračko has more the charisma of a rock star, which he also is in his own way in the gastronomic genre. The avant-garde cuisine never ceases to surprise. However, creativity is not an end in itself, as perfectionism and precision are of the utmost importance.
A relaxed bistro in the historic centre of Maribor. Culinary delights are always on the menu: the day starts with breakfast, a light lunch is served at lunchtime and in the evening, regional cuisine is served with a view of the world. The wine list offers 150 labels. Very nice service.
Urh and Barbara have transformed a former patisserie into a cosy little bistro. You can still feel the sweet life. The food is simple, but all the better for it: the fluffy gnocchi, for example, are served with just a light sauce. Pure and delicious.
The rustic style resembles a wine cellar, which shows how deeply rooted regional wine growing is. The cuisine is also down-to-earth: Homemade mlinci with red cabbage, stewed apple and Blaufränkisch sauce are a fine example. Lamb chops and steaks are also popular.
Tomaž Polenec is characterised by French cuisine and its high level of product awareness. The shrimp carpaccio, for example, is intensified by the best olive oil, orange gel and passion fruit dressing. The sweet finale is a feast, as desserts come from the in-house patisserie.
The Gulf of Trieste lies at your feet, and the cuisine is suitably Mediterranean. The pea soup impresses with its creaminess, while the stirred polenta goes well with prawns or tender grilled meat. The helpful staff will be happy to advise you on the selection of well-stocked wines.
The interior looks like a bar with its white furniture and casual leather sofas. The kitchen focuses on contemporary Istrian cuisine with modern accents. Fuži with truffles, seafood risotto or sea bass in a salt crust are just as much a firm favourite as the Wagyū burger.
The setting is elegant with historical grandeur and modern elements. Tadej Petrič and Ervin Podbregar stand for good regional cuisine that is always good for surprises. They serve buckwheat gnocchi with goat's cheese sauce and meadow flowers as well as parsnip cream.
The modern hotel offers Slovenian country cuisine, but in a refined way. The dessert menu benefits from the hotel's own patisserie, and the strudels and cakes are particularly tasty. And as Sevnica is the place of provenance of Melania Trump, there is also a Melania cake.
Gregor Denk is known as a refined chef with elaborate menus at Hiša Denk. At the Zweigestelle, he plays it casual. Mussels in buzara sauce, pizza from the wood-fired oven and burgers are on the menu. Fish and meat courses are also available. Booking recommended at the weekend.
