"Ramen" Street Food Restaurants in North Rhine-Westphalia
A sister restaurant to Düsseldorf’s Takumi, specializing in spicy tantanmen, has arrived in Cologne with cult status. The signature broth—sesame-based, aromatic, and spicy if you like—is available with chicken, vegetarian, or even vegan options. Gyoza, karaage, and takoyaki make for great appetizers.
A halal concept, anime aesthetics, and unconventional ideas: Funky Ramen has its own unique values—and has been nominated for ArchDaily’s “Building of the Year 2026” as a result. Those looking for classic fare will be disappointed: sushi, donburi, and noodle soups are given a contemporary twist and reinterpreted.
A cocktail bar with a side program: Pretty smart. When developing the concept, the team led by Little Link boss Stephan Hinz drew inspiration from traditional Japanese pub culture—except that here, everything is pretty bold, both in color and style.
With over 250 locations, Kagetsu is one of Japan’s largest ramen chains and, despite its franchise-like feel, serves up authentic, flavorful Japanese noodle soups. At the heart of the menu are the spicy, rich broths with their various, distinctive toppings.
Takumi goes Nippes. Here, the rich pork bone-based ramen noodle soup—tonkotsu—takes center stage. Both the broth and the noodles are imported directly from Japan. Vegetarian options are also available. Toppings? Roasted pork belly, shrimp, gyoza, and, of course, egg.
At this still-popular spot between Rudolfplatz and Zülpi, you’ll occasionally have to wait in line during peak hours. The various noodle soups range from good to solid. Recommended: Surf & Turf Takumi Style with chicken, shrimp, and a runny egg.
