The Best Alpine Huts in Styria
"Leaning" against a small rock on a panoramic ridge in the Buchstein group in the Gesäuse National Park, at an altitude of 1544 meters, lies the oldest refuge in the Gesäuse, built in 1885. Start, finish and meeting point for hikers and mountain bikers.
Fine cuisine with a large selection of wines, garnished with panoramic views in the bright extension, a rustic hut atmosphere in the winding main building or warm sunshine on the terrace: the ski and hiking hut at 1857 meters above sea level on the Hauser Kaibling transmitter plateau is a classic.
A worthwhile stop to or from the Frauenalpe summit, which offers far-reaching views of the Niedere Tauern, the Gurktal Alps and the Karawanken during hikes and ski tours. Kasnudeln, Kaiserschmarrn or roast pork, as well as vegetarian delicacies, await you in the rustic Stub'n.

Just turned a hundred years old, the Oskar-Schauer-Haus, also known as Sattelhaus, on the Terenbachalm spoils you with down-to-earth Styrian food at 1409 meters above sea level. Accessible via (circular) hiking trails and by car. Starting point for hikes to the Stub- and Gleinalm.
The backdrop looks like something out of a fairy tale. The Putzentalalm can be easily reached in 90 minutes from the Breitlahnalm via the turquoise-green, idyllic Schwarzensee lake in the Kleinsölktal valley and entices visitors with Kaiserschmarrn pancakes over an open fire and tasty Styrian cheese bread. Suitable as a family excursion destination!
At 1871 meters, there is a spacious sun terrace with a view towards the Enns Valley and Niedere Tauern, a climbing garden and the access points to climbing routes through the Dachstein south face towards the summit. The valley station of the cable car is just a 30-minute walk away.
All-rounder on the Teichalm: the Latschenhütte succeeds as a fine alpine restaurant with beef, fish or vegetarian wok as well as exquisite food from its own vineyard, but is also legendary as a party location as "LaHü". A good starting and finishing point for hikes in the Almenland.
Located at the head of the Gollingkessel valley on the Obere Steinwenderalm, the spacious hut, built in 1904, presents itself in a natural amphitheater against the mighty backdrop of the Hochgolling, the "King of the Schladminger Tauern". A stage destination on the Tauern High Trail.

2740 metres is quite something - the striking Seethalerhütte is the highest mountain hut in Upper Austria and therefore offers a magnificent panoramic view. On clear days you can see the Triglav, the Großglockner and the Bohemian Forest. Good hut food, delicious soups.
The limited cell phone reception proves to be a recreational booster on the terrace and in the parlor, where hearty cheese spaetzle, aromatic bacon and vegetarian delicacies are served in the middle of the Rottenmanner Tauern. Tours to the Globuckensee, Kamplsteig and Seegupf.

Accessible from Ramsau-Rössing and located at the end of an almost hundred-year-old path through the spectacular white-water gorge in the heart of the Dachstein massif, the hut is the starting point for via ferrata tours. Organic produce from the hut's own farm and a beautiful view await.
Maja Ludwig and Lisi Schleicher have polished the architecturally unusual Voisthalerhütte into a convivial fixed star in the Hochschwab massif. They serve Austrian and Saxon specialties plus Styrian delicacies - and now also run the "Moassa" on the Rax.
