The friendliest city in the world? Europe's favorite

Porto was recently voted the world's favorite travel destination. Now the city on the Douro has received one more award: according to the British Time Out magazine, it is the "Friendliest City in the World".

In October, Porto was honored in the "Top City Trip" category at the "World Travel Awards 2025". Now the port city has been awarded the title of "Friendliest City in the World" by Time Out magazine.

People smile a lot in Porto

A total of 18,500 participants worldwide were asked about their city's Happiness Index as part of the survey. They were asked to rate how satisfied they were with the infrastructure, cultural offerings and life in their city.

The friendliness of city dwellers was also surveyed: where do people smile the most? Where do you welcome others? The clear winner in the "simpatia" ranking: the people of Portuens! 85 percent consider their fellow citizens to be very courteous.

2nd and 3rd place with spirited flair

The second friendliest city in the world also radiates joie de vivre: Bilbao in Spain is considered hospitable by 71 percent of residents. Medellín in Colombia came third in the ranking: 69 percent of residents surveyed described the city as welcoming and hospitable.
