Originally, the 13th century Tuscan villa was intended as a wedding gift. Claus Thottrup wanted to give the property, complete with a farm and a bakery, to his wife Jeanette. But then they transformed the Borgo Santo Pietro in Palazzetto into a dreamy hideaway. Vines cover archways; fish swim in the koi pond, while the sound of tennis balls being hit drifts from the courts. Fields stretch behind the main house, and the estate's vegetable garden provides the ingredients for the hotel and La Bottega del Buon Caffè, the owner's Michelin restaurant in Florence. Time seems to stand still here. Everyday life? Far away. Relaxing by the pool, breakfast on the terrace and live music at the Poolside Treehouse Bar are just some of the highlights at Borgo Santo Pietro.

Once upon a time there was an abandoned village called Castiglioncello del Trinoro. It dated back to the 12th century and had fallen into disrepair. But then the American lawyer Michael Cioffi came, fell in love with the place and turned it into one of the most beautiful boutique hotels in Tuscany. With great attention to detail and the help of interior designer Ilaria Miani, he awoke the village from its slumber. Today Monteverdi consists of a small hotel and three villas. Modern art can be found at every corner, while an infinity pool and a lavender garden invite you to relax. Only ten rooms are available. But these have it all. Stone walls, small windows and wooden beams ensure a typical Tuscan flair.

Casa Iris
Corso Italia, 3, 58015 Orbetello GR, Italy
[email protected]
casairisorbetello.com
It's not the luxury that draws guests to Casa Iris. Rather, it's the heart and story behind the small bed & breakfast in Orbetello. It has just three rooms, which Italian-American couple James Valeri and Matthew Adams, with the help of Maria Rosaria Basileo, have transformed into a chic hideaway. While Valeri is known as a fashion designer and Adams was formerly a restaurant chef, Basileo is no stranger to her field either. She and her team had previously worked on the restoration of the Sistine Chapel and the Villa Borghese. An 18th-century mural, a 17th-century washbasin, and many original details from the Valeri family estate make Casa Iris such a special place.
