A recent study reveals a growing enthusiasm for wine knowledge, with many eager to share their expertise with friends. Interestingly, being well-versed in wine is increasingly seen as an attractive quality.
More and more people are not only interested in the enjoyment of wine, but also in knowledge about the noble drop. This is shown by a recent study by Weinfreunde.de, which confirms the growing interest in wine topics. For example, 35.9 percent of respondents said that wine is often a topic of discussion when meeting friends, and 37 percent like to tell their guests more about the wine they serve. More than half of those surveyed (53.5%) find the topic of wine generally interesting and exciting.
Sven Reinbold, Head of Purchasing at Weinfreunde, confirms: “Drinking wine and talking about it simply go well together. It's most fun when you can score points with your own wine knowledge.”
The survey shows that wine is not only a social highlight, but also a romantic one: 61.9% prefer to drink their wine with friends and 59.1% with their partner. Wine knowledge also has advantages for singles, as 41% find people who know about wine attractive.
It is interesting to note that the 35 to 44 age group shows the greatest interest in wine, contrary to the widespread assumption that older people are more interested in wine. This age group is clearly in the lead when it comes to questions about wine knowledge and wine interest.
The survey was conducted by the opinion institute Appinio on behalf of Weinfreunde.de and questioned around 1,500 wine drinkers from all over Germany aged between 18 and 75.
