Podere Il Carnasciale is located high up in the Val d'Arno di Sopra in the central part of Tuscany and is a very special boutique winery. It is home to a special grape variety that cannot be found anywhere else in the world: Caberlot. This is probably a spontaneous cross between Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The few hectares on which it grows are certified organic. Just 4,000 magnum bottles of this globally sought-after wine can be filled. Those who come up empty-handed in this respect can console themselves with the equally recommendable Carnasciale or Ottandadue wines.

The best-known wine from the family-run winery is Il Caberlot. It is not a cuvée, but a variety that comes from a natural cross between Cabernet and Merlot, the Caberlot grape. A vine nursery near Piacenza was the pioneer of this special phenomenon. The grapes for Il Caberlot are harvested by hand and processed in a traditional hand press. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is aged for 18 months in barrels. The first vintage of "Il Caberlot" was produced in 1988 from 0.3 hectares of vines.
