Rainer Loacker has been growing wine since 1979 on the Schwarhof, which has been documented since 1334, and on the nearby Kohlerhof, both of which belong to the classic St. Magdalener wine-growing region. In 2010, the founder left South Tyrol and acquired a small vineyard in Styria, where he also runs a wine tavern. The wineries in South Tyrol and Tuscany are run by Rainer Loacker's sons Hayo and Franz Josef. From the very beginning, the vineyards were cultivated according to organic guidelines, which at the time was usually met with incomprehension by the neighbors. Today, the vineyards are managed biodynamically and homeopathic medicines are also used. Loacker's wines are individual wines full of character. In addition to the winery in South Tyrol, the Loackers have also owned two wineries in Tuscany for a number of years: one in Montalcino (Corte Pavone) and one in Maremma (Valdifalco). The Loackers are also pioneers when it comes to bottle closures. With the exception of St. Magdalener and Sylvaner, all Loacker wines are fitted with VinoLok closures. The Cabernet-Lagrein cuvée Kastlet and the Lagrein Gran Lareyn were very good this year. The Chardonnay Ateyon, a wine that impressively demonstrates time and again in tastings of older vintages how beautifully it can mature, is surprisingly consistent.
