The history of the Artner winery dates back to 1650. Even the ancestors recognized the region's potential for viticulture. Since the 1980s, the family has increasingly focused on producing wines with authenticity and character on what was once a mixed farm. Höflein is located in the Carnuntum wine-growing region, which stretches east of Vienna and south of the Danube to the Slovakian border. Strong loess and sparse limestone soils as well as the Pannonian climate with the cooling influence of the Danube provide ideal conditions for the vines growing here. Since the winery was accepted into the circle of "Traditionsweingüter Österreich" in 2018, there has been an even greater focus on the topic of origin when working in the vineyard. The members of the association see it as their duty to express the characteristics of their region, their soils, their climate, their varieties and their cellars in their wines.
Hannes Artner, who took over the winery from his father and, as a creative pioneer, has given the business a qualitative orientation from an early age, his son Peter, who as cellar master contributes all his knowledge and passion for the wines, and Hannes' brother Christoph, who is responsible for international sales and the office at home: They all pull together, because the Artners are a family that is characterized by cohesion, hard work, passing on knowledge and learning new things - and ultimately by the belief that it is worthwhile never to deviate from one's own quality standards. The winery now cultivates 45 hectares of vineyards and is certified as an organic winery for the 2021 vintage.
