Falstaff Wineguide Germany 2021

Matthias and Stefanie Buchert who run their five-hectare estate in Neustadt an der Weinstraße together, don’t seem to care much for convention. Quite a number of their wines are idiosyncratic in the best sense of the word. Like their Riesling “Holz 18” which unites noticeable sweetness and palpable wood influence which prompted one of our tasters to note down “sommelier wine”. Likewise, their rosé “Holz 18”, with its woody spice and real substance does not really comply with the cliché of an easy-drinking rosé. We also liked the red blend “Cuvée 14” with its powerful tannins, which would be perfect alongside Osso Buco.
