The red wine Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva Il Poggio, vintage 2011 from the winery Castello di Monsanto has been rated in 2017 by Othmar Kiem with 96 Falstaff points. It is a wine made from the grape variety Sangiovese from the region Tuscany in Italy.
Bright, intense ruby with a slight garnet edge. Finely marked, fragrant nose, showing notes of saffron and dried tomato, then lots of blackberry, ripe cherry; playful. On the palate juicy and firm, showing lots of ripe fruit, raspberry and dark cherries, unfolds with polished, integrated tannin. Vivid acidity gives the wine liveliness, savoury cedar on the finish.
