Tasting Notes
I rated this wine significantly higher at 95 points about two years ago, but I believe that it is in a rather unfavorable phase. The primary fruit with its attractive truffle and blackberry notes has now given way to cocoa and dried fruit, the strong tannin no longer seems silky but somewhat dry, so the transition to the maturity phase has begun. This pubescent wine lets the taster feel its slightly higher acidity at the moment, its chocolaty and long finish is not as pronounced as is usually the case with the Reserve. A little patience will pay off, in a decade's time you will always have known that this 1997 had to turn out to be a real "Vin de Garde".
