Some see the Linzer Torte as the major culinary landmark of Linz. But the star of the show is still the Leberkas-Pepi with its huge selection of specialties. All served by a wonderfully friendly staff. A must-visit destination.
The "Südi" is an Eldorado for strollers who appreciate something special. Dietmar Öller and his daughter Melanie Heizinger are right in the middle of it all, radiating Italian flair in the restaurant. Homemade pasta, wonderful sauces, great philosophy: everything is used, from leaves to roots.
The arcade became the Linzerie. One of the leading gastronomic establishments is the Ichi go ichi e, which means something like the "chance in life". In the ramen bar, the aromatic black garlic ramen and the sweat-inducing "Tan Tan Men" are worth mentioning. Also a stunner: the gyoza.
A visit to the old town without stopping by Be Right Back falls into the "grossly negligent" category. The team manages the balancing act between Asian cuisine and delights with rice bowls, heart-warming burgers (tip: pulled duck) or unusual Korean bibimbap.
The trend towards vegan food continues to grow. Front Food in the centre of Linz has been around for ten years and is considered the first vegan fast food restaurant in Upper Austria. The excellent food continues to impress. Always a safe bet: Pirate burgers and fries.
Izakaya is considered the first Japanese restaurant in the country and is run by Mario and Sabine Shirakura. This Japanese pub cuisine is wonderfully successful, complemented by sushi of perfect quality (rice and fish). The dishes with local fish are definitely worth trying.
Who doesn't know them? Satay Gai, chicken skewers with peanut sauce that caress the palate and are offered on every street corner in Thailand. They are delicious at Aroy Thai in the Tabakfabrik. Also recommended: yam taeng, Thai cucumber salad or spicy tom yam.
