A new app will be used to record arrival data in advance from October 2026 and significantly speed up border controls. The solution replaces the previous system and is intended to facilitate smooth entry.

Thailand continues to drive forward the digitalization of its entry processes. With the new "Thailand Immigration Management System" (THIM) app, the Immigration Bureau wants to simplify the arrival of international guests in the future and at the same time speed up the processes at border controls.

As reported by the Bangkok Post, the "THIM" app is available for iOS and Android and will replace the previous web-based registration via the "Thailand Digital Arrival Card" from October 2026. The background to the introduction of the app is the high volume of passengers: around 30 million international guests travel to Thailand every year. THIM" is intended to make entry more efficient and at the same time more user-friendly.

The aim is to make entry smoother

Previously, the authority worked with manual forms and outsourced data entry. The web-based "Thailand Digital Arrival Card" was introduced in 2025 last year and was used to process more than ten million travelers. However, it was criticized that all input fields often had to be filled in again for each trip.

With "THIM", travelers will only have to create their profile once. For subsequent entries, only individual data such as flight number or return date need to be updated. This should reduce the recording time to around three minutes.

How the app will work in future

The app is currently still in the pilot phase and uses an electronic KYC procedure for identity verification based on passport data. A QR code is not required at the border control, as the data is synchronized directly with the authority's systems. Civil servants can call up the digital registration when scanning their passport.

In the future, the authority plans to expand the app with additional functions - including visa extensions, electronic 90-day notification for long-term stays and long-term automated processes at border crossings.
