The "La Dolce Vita Orient-Express" promises a dose of "Dolce Vita" paired with glamorous luxury. From May, it takes you on a five-day journey through the "Bel Paese". However, a corresponding budget is required to secure a compartment.

A journey on the "Orient Express" has always stood for a way of traveling in which the route itself becomes an experience - the landscape slowly passes by to the rhythm of the route and classic interiors provide luxurious retro chic. With the "La Dolce Vita Orient-Express", this concept has been on the move in Italy since 2025. From May 2026, travelers can go on a "Grand Tour" through the "Bel Paese".

Between nostalgia and contemporary comfort, the carriages of the "Dolce Vita Orient-Express" hark back to the great era of rail travel - with the amenities of a 5-star hotel. There are twelve deluxe cabins, 18 suites and an honor suite on board, designed in the style of the 1960s and 1970s with modern accents. Previous routes have included Sicily and Istanbul - now the new "Grand Tour" is expanding the range.

Trip to Italy with the "Orient Express"

A five-day round trip is planned, starting in Rome and stopping at four other locations. The maiden voyage starts on May 21, 2026 at Ostiense station. From there, the first stop is Venice, where the train arrives in the evening. After a stay in the lagoon city, it continues the journey overnight to Matera, which it reaches the next morning.

On the third day, the route continues south. A special moment of the trip is the ferry crossing across the Strait of Messina. On Sicily, stops in Taormina and Palermo are then on the program before the trip ends back in Rome on the fifth day.

However, this form of travel is not cheap: prices start at around 15,800 euros per person.

Tip: Falstaff TRAVEL highlights the art of slow travel in the upcoming issue 03/26 and presents selected train journeys.
