"Uber" takes over the Berlin start-up "Blacklane", further expanding its chauffeur services via app. The aim is to offer a premium service to affluent travelers.

The US vehicle service provider "Uber" takes over the Berlin start-up "Blacklane" and thus enters the market for premium rides and business trips.

With the acquisition, the San Francisco-based company aims to expand the upscale chauffeur segment in particular and strengthen its still young "Uber Elite" brand - an offer that primarily appeals to business travelers, executives and wealthy customers, as the Handelsblatt reports.

"Blacklane, founded in 2011, has specialized in precisely this clientele. Similar to "Uber", travelers can book limousine and chauffeur services via an app - for example for a trip from Berlin airport to Berlin-Mitte, which costs between 139 and almost 200 euros depending on the vehicle model. The advantage: more comfort, predictable pick-up times and a premium service that leaves classic cab rides behind.
