Lediglich eine Stunde von Bordeaux entfernt liegt das Bassin von Arcachon – eine wahre Traumbucht am Atlantik und ein absolutes Must-see, nicht nur für Austernliebhaber. Das frühere Fischerdorf Arcachon hat sich heimlich, still und leise zu einem der angesagtesten Luxusbadeorte Frankreichs entwickelt. Traumvillen, ein wunderschöner Sandstrand und die fangfrischen Austern, für die der Ort so berühmt wurde, sorgen für unbeschwerte Wohlfühlmomente. Auch eine Radtour entlang der Küste, begleitet von Meeresrauschen und Pinienduft, ist ein Erlebnis, das noch lange in Erinnerung bleiben wird. Wenige Kilometer von der Stadt entfernt liegt die Dune du Pilat. Sie ist mit ihren fast 3 Kilometern Länge Europas größte Wanderdüne und eines der Highlights der Region – in puncto Beliebtheit dicht gefolgt von der romantischen Halbinsel Cap Ferret, die man von Arcachon aus sehen kann. Achtung: Die Rede ist von Cap Ferret – nicht zu verwechseln mit Cap Ferrat, einer Halbinsel an der Côte d’Azur, die vor allem wegen ihrer berühmten Gäste wie Charlie Chaplin oder Beyoncé bekannt wurde. Besucher des weniger bekannten Cap Ferret erfreuen sich vor allem am durch Pinienwälder vom Atlantikwind geschützten Strand mit Blick auf die Bucht. Wer sich nicht scheut 258 Stufen hochzusteigen, der stattet dem Leuchtturm einen Besuch ab und wird mit einem traumhaften Sonnenuntergang sowie Ausblick auf die Bucht und Austernfarmen belohnt. Die knapp 30 km lange Küste schützt die wertvollen Austernbänke in der Bucht von Arcachon sicher vor der Gewalt des Ozeans. Versinken Sie mit den Füßen im feinen Sand der Düne und lassen Sie Ihren Blick über die unendliche Weite des Horizonts schweifen. Genießen Sie frisch gefangene Austern, die im „Bassin“, wie die Einheimischen sagen, gezüchtet und direkt aus den traditionellen Holzhütten, den Cabanes, in den dorfeigenen Austernfischerhäfen verkauft werden. Bei einer Bootsfahrt in die Bucht von Arcachon kann man nicht nur mehr über die Austernzucht und das Ökosystem vor Ort lernen, sondern auch die gesamte Bucht zwischen Arcachon, Cap Ferret und der Dune du Pilat bewundern. Wassersportfans mieten sich ein Segelboot, probieren Kitesurfen oder erkunden mit dem Kajak oder Stand-Up-Paddle die Umgebung. Typisch französisch und sehr genussvoll – so lässt sich dieses nahezu unberührte Reiseziel mit seiner wilden und authentischen Natur wohl am besten beschreiben.
REBIRTH OF A LEGEND
The Ha(a)ïtza was one of the most popular retreats of the eccentric and cosmopolitan cultural hustle and bustle of the 1930s - even the famous fashion designer Jeanne Lanvin regularly visited the hotel in the villa district of Pyla-sur-Mer. Deeply rooted in the memory of locals, the house, built by visionary Louis Gaume, is synonymous with neo-Basque architecture and still evokes the golden age. In 2016, new owners Sophie and William Techoueyres breathed new life into the Ha(a)ïtza, completely renovating it with the help of renowned designer Philippe Starck. The Dune du Pilat, on which the Ha(a)ïtza nestles, is reflected in the design of the five-star hotel. Philippe Starck described the sand of the dune as a paradox of strength and mobility. Thus, nature inspired the stylish interior design, where marble meets natural wood and raw pickled concrete, complemented by delicate glass and mirror elements as well as soft, flowing fabrics. The dreamlike ambience creates a noble and sublime retreat, where the physical well-being is not neglected either. It is not without reason that the restaurant "Le Skiff Club" in the Hotel Ha(a)ïtza was awarded a Michelin star in 2017.

La Co(o)rniche was built in the 1930s by Louis Gaume in the neo-Basque style. Under the pine trees of Pyla-sur-Mer, the former hunting lodge attracted the aristocracy and upper class at that time - especially due to its location in the picturesque nature reserve "Banc d'Arguin". No wonder that after the renovation of the Hotel Ha(a)ïtza in 2010, William Techoueyres decided to bring La Co(o)rniche back to life as well.
