The blue grape variety Arinarnoa is a new variety from INRA Bordeaux (Institut National de la Recherde en Agronomie) in southwest France. It was created by crossing the Merlot and Petit Verdot grape varieties, which Pierre Marcel Durquéty succeeded in 1956. In the breeder's Basque homeland, Arinarnoa means something like light wine. The root word Arin indicates the pleasant and light nature, while arnoa means wine. Arinarnoa is a neologism that does not exist in this way in everyday language. Distribution: In addition to France, Arinarnoa is also grown in Australia, Argentina, Chile, Italy, Lebanon, Switzerland and Spain. The variety has experienced a real boom since the late 1990s. The Swiss research center in Cadenazzo/TI tested this late-ripening vine and received very good results. Wine type: Arinarnoa combines the fleshy character of Merlot with the acidity and spiciness of Petit Verdot.
