Bombino Bianco

White grape variety

Bombino Bianco is a white wine variety widespread in Italy, primarily in southern Italy and in Emiglia-Romagna, where it is called Pagadebit. It is not a color mutation of the Bombino Nero, although it is closely related to it. The peculiar name means something like "little bomb", a reference to the shape of the grapes. The Bombino Bianco produces quite high yields and ripens late, which is why it needs an environment with warm autumns. It is fairly resistant to most rot diseases. The focus of cultivation is in Apulia, although because of its fairly neutral nature it is rarely produced as a single variety, but is always blended with other types of white wine. From the hands of good producers, fresh, fruity wines that can be drunk young can be achieved. However, a lot of wine is also processed into European table wine. Bombino Bianco is also used to produce vermouth. Part of the harvest is also exported to Germany, where the Bombino Bianco is blended with Morio nutmeg and processed into inexpensive sparkling wine. This grape variety is not found outside of Italy.
