Rondinella is a grape variety that occurs almost exclusively in Veneto and is an integral part of the famous Valpolicella and Bardolino, both red and rosé. Its share in the cuvée with Corvina and Molinara is higher than in the latter variety, which is also reflected in the larger vineyard area of 2,800 hectares compared to 1,300 hectares. Rondinella ripens quite late and tends to produce very high yields, so measures for yield restrictions must be taken to ensure good quality. The grape variety, first mentioned in 1882, is a direct descendant of its cuvée partner, Corvina. Because of its insensitivity to fungal diseases, Rondinella is also ideal for producing the special Veronese wine specialties Recioto and Amarone, as the variety can be dried very well. In contrast to Corvina, which is also produced as a pure variety, Rondinella does not have enough fruit and structure to be able to stand on its own. The variety is not found outside of the Veneto and therefore also outside of Italy, apart from a small vineyard in New South Wales/Australia.
