"Exceptional Location" Wineries in Vienna
A Viennese parade tavern, as there are not many: the location with a view over the whole of Vienna is breathtakingly beautiful, Fritz Wieninger's wines are among the absolute top class and the buffet is rich in top gastronomic products. What more could you want?
Always a pleasure! Helmut Krenek in the kitchen creates top-class tavern dishes. The fried chicken and roast pork could not be better. Served with organic wines from the Göbel winery, which go perfectly with this cuisine.
Although Tyrolean-born Norbert Walter spent a long time working in cheese production, he has lived in Vienna since 1989. He has been running his wine tavern on the Bisamberg since 2004. Burgundy varieties thrive particularly well there, and of course there is Tyrolean bacon and cheese to go with it.
"Cool" Heuriger in the middle of the vineyards with a view of the city. The buffet is rich in high-quality snacks such as the fabulously good mackerel tartare. The wine selection is also rather unconventional, including some natural wines.
Wonderful garden with oleander and shady trees. In addition to a rich Heurigen buffet, chickens and ducks are grilled here on advance order, and in autumn there are also roast geese. The organic wines are of reliable quality.
This wine tavern run by the well-known journalist Georg Wailand is an eternal insider tip. The reward for mastering the small climb is a truly unique view as well as high quality wines. Weiland is top-drawer, the Viennese might say.
When the weather is fine, the Viennese flock to the Mayer am Nussberg. No wonder; the location with a view over Vienna couldn't be better. You have to be quick at the buffet, because not only is Mayer's organic gazpacho delicious, the truffle chips are also in great demand.
A Heurigen institution - at any rate, crowds of regulars flock here, especially on summer days. This year a new chef at the helm, but their legendary Krautfleckerl dish is still available as well as many vegetarian and vegan dishes.
In the league of slightly more modern wine taverns, this is a Viennese paragon! The panoramic terrace with pergola, lounge and view of the Danube is something special in itself. But the cuisine with creative hot dishes is also of the highest calibre.
Legendary Heuriger in Neustift am Walde. What stands out here is the emphasis on high-quality produce at the buffet. Joseph bread, Thum ham and Andreas Gugumuck's snails are just a few examples. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are also available!
As a "real" farm, the cosy Presshaus offers organic wines and grape juices from its own vineyards. The wine tavern buffet and pastries are also homemade. Certified organic products are available from the farm's own livestock. Tip: enchanted natural garden!
The popular Wiltschko is located just beyond the Maurer Wald forest. Renovated a few years ago, there is now a larger selection of à la carte dishes. What has stayed the same, however, is the Maurer wines from its sustainable vineyards and the fantastic view.
A wine tavern with a spacious meadow at the foot of a vineyard. In bad weather, a cosy wooden parlour in the press house is available. The buffet is limited to cold dishes with many spreads. Reasonably priced wines, such as the Riesling from the Falkenberg.
A Heuriger like in the old days, but also timeless. A picturesque spot set in nature and located by the church on the Kaasgraben road, surrounded by old vines. The chef grills the meat and sausages himself. Booking at the weekend is essential!
Traditional wine tavern with garden, run by the third generation. The business has also been growing fruit for several years. A cordial and a Dirndl brandy are produced from the Dirndl fruit. A typical Heurigen buffet tempts hungry guests.
Away from the hustle and bustle, in Vienna's suburbs, you will find one of the few wine taverns in the 16th district. The pork knuckle are deliciously crispy, the wines from the Wilhelminenberg are worth discovering - as is the spectacular view over the city of Vienna.
The Knizak family's main house in a beautiful, cosy courtyard. Last year, a weather-independent location was added right next door. Typical Heurigen specialities are served, such as cold roast pork, ‘Blunzen’ or various spreads.
Maria Grötzer's Riesling comes from the ‘Untere Schos’ vineyard on the Nussberg. Her wine tavern is also located on the Nussberg, where daughter Lisi Sukup-Grötzer stands behind the bar. An idyllic place with a fabulous view over Vienna. Legendary: the Buchteln.
Traditional pub at the foot of the Bisamberg. The cosy bar and spacious garden are popular with locals and day trippers. Huge selection of hot and cold dishes served with natural wines. The cream slice is a cult classic and is enough for two people.
The Stippert family's second business (alongside a wine tavern in Ottakring). In the Buschenschank am Heuberg with its garden, traditional Heurigen dishes (hot and cold) are served, accompanied by wines such as Grüner Veltliner and Blauburger from the family's own vineyards.
