"Exceptional Location" Wineries in Vienna
It’s well known that his wines are world-class. What’s less well known is that all of Fritz Wieninger’s wines are biodynamic. The location of the wine tavern is also world-class, offering one of the most spectacular views of the city and the buffet. Tip: Try the daily specials and vegan options.
A project by Juan “Hans” Amador and Fritz “Wien Wein” Wieninger. While enjoying Fritz’s award-winning wines, guests can savor Joseph bread with cheese from the Paznaun Valley, Mangalitza sausages, or liver pâté served in a glass. Spectacular views, small Amador dishes, “Respekt” wines.
It’s a winning combination, because Helmut Krenek has a knack for the nuances of Viennese cuisine. His crispy roast pork from a straw-fed pig is considered by many to be the best in the city (that juiciness!). And Göbel’s organic delicacies are just as impressive.
Norbert Walter, a native of Tyrol, gained experience in cheese-making over eight seasons at various alpine pastures before falling in love with the idyllic Buschenschank on Bisamberg in 2004. There, he produces fine Burgundy wines to pair with Tyrolean specialties—speck and cheese.
Just a few minutes’ walk from Grinzinger Platzl, you can sit in Obermann’s gorgeous garden in the shade of old oleander trees. The wine is organic, and the cold and hot Heurigen buffet has something for everyone. Grilled chicken and duck are available by advance order!
While the view from the Nussberg is already breathtaking, it’s even more spectacular from the Wailand wine tavern, located slightly higher up. The quality of the wines offered here by the well-known journalist is also almost unmatched. It’s all well worth the short climb!
Can a Heuriger be chic? Mayer’s certainly is! The view of the city and the Danube is spectacular—and so are the single-vineyard wines. The same goes for the cheese selection, organic chicken schnitzel, hearty snack platters, and much more. They even serve ice cream. Tip: Be sure to make a reservation on weekends!
One of the most popular restaurants around. In addition to roast pork from regional free-range pigs, blood sausage from organic farmers, a selection of local cheeses, and more, they also offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes. Their Krautfleckerl is legendary—a signature dish at Schankwein.
A true institution in the 19th district. Seasonal ingredients are supplied by local farmers, fresh vegetables grow in the restaurant’s own garden, and the wines are practically “right next door.” It’s the perfect spot to linger a while longer, even after romantic sunsets.
A top-tier restaurant in Neustift am Walde. An impressive variety of wines and dishes. Collaborations with well-known producers such as Thum and Dormayer. Seasonal specialties like roast goose, herring feasts, and dishes featuring asparagus, pumpkin, and mushrooms. Tip: Roast pork fresh from the oven!
A family-run farm for 250 years, raising pigs, chickens, rabbits, and more, the Steindls have also been operating the Presshaus since 2010. In the natural garden, guests can enjoy delicacies from the buffet paired with the estate’s own organic wines. Specialties: cream slices and fine brandies.
Renovated a few years ago, Wiltschko is returning to its old strengths. These include excellent hot and cold dishes paired with natural Maurer wines from the neighboring vineyards. Fortunately, the view down into the city remains unobstructed and unchanged!
At “Am Berg,” guests not only enjoy cold dishes—and, by the way, hot ones during celebrations as well—but are also served wines that have been honored with the title “State Champion.” Musical events are also held here regularly. There’s a lovely garden and a quaint wine press house.
Behind a small, two-story cottage—which also houses the buffet—a picturesque natural garden opens up amid the lush vineyards. Great wines and grilled delicacies (Ripperl). Please note: Be sure to check the opening hours and make a reservation!
At one of the city’s most beautiful Heurigs, red flower boxes adorn the traditional building, while classic green benches nearby invite you to linger. Austrian and seasonal specialties. Tip: homemade sparkling wine (in collaboration with Kattus).
Wine, fruit, and the cozy wine tavern are the Strauchs’ pride and joy. The current wine recommendation includes, among others, the Grüner Veltliner “Hausweingartl” 2025. Specialties include Dirndl syrup and the house-made “Medizin” (= Nusserner). Cold buffet.
There are apparently still a few Heurige in Ottakring that some consider insider tips. The view over the rooftops is spectacular, the chicken drumsticks are crispy, and the wines from Wilhelminenberg are delicious. It’s a great little spot to wind down at the end of the day.
This small but charming, traditionally styled wine tavern has a very cozy, family-like atmosphere. The food consists of tried-and-true, homemade cold Heurigen specialties; the wines come from the Bisamberger Ried “Oberer Jungenberg.” Popular items include a variety of spreads and cakes!
The Grötzer family takes pride in its natural and sustainable Riesling from the top-tier “Untere Schos” vineyard on the Nussberg. Tasted amidst blooming vineyards with a panoramic view of Vienna, it tastes even better. Regulars also swear by the warm Buchteln.
Wines from our own vineyards; award-winning varieties include “Roesler” and “Wiener Gemischter Satz.” Authentic delicacies from sustainable farms, ranging from hearty blood sausages to select cheese specialties. On-site playground for children nestled among the grapevines. Cash only!
