Lounge Bars in Austria
The bar's fifth birthday showed just how international the team's friends are. The fruit wines, for which David Barbist has a knack, are a USP. Chef Kostas Karvounis complements the tinkerer as an always cheerful host. Together they bring individualistic ingredients to life (also visually appealing).
The Hawaiian shirts of Arik and Matty Vinnitski's team are colourful, but so is the cocktail menu - and both go well with the colourful tiki mugs made in-house. The cheerful world of strong rum cocktails with a Polynesian flavour has clearly found its Viennese home: Zombie, Mai Tai ... it's all here!
Alpine elegance prevails throughout the hotel including in the bar. Thanks to homemade syrups the non-alcoholic selection is varied, while the signature cocktails succeed with either a regional twist, such as the "Alpincosmo", or international notes such as the "Thai Massage" with tequila, chilli, lemongrass and mango.
It turned out exactly as Peter Friese had dreamed. The diversity of the Italian gastronomic experience in democratic form came to Vienna. Panini and small pasta dishes, but also "Garibaldi" and "Sarti Spritz". An orange slice served in a tumbler accompanied by the signature card of David Penker's team. Much love!
It can be simple: good espresso and fascinating cocktails. This is how the bar at the beginning of Steingasse has made its name. The creative naming of "Berry Me in Bourbon" or "Thyme and Punishment" is a matter of course. And with regional honey in the shaker and "Salzach Blush", things get very local.
Cocktail DNA is anchored in the Haneder family. Stefan Haneder, the world champion of world champions, is known in every corner of Austria. His son Mario, trained in Rostock, is following in his footsteps and already knows how to impress with his sensitivity for flavours and flair bartending at a young age.
There's plenty on offer from nine in the morning until one o'clock at night: Pub quizzes, concerts, DJ sessions - there's something for everyone. Culinary delights include homemade tarte flambée, dumplings and arancini. There is also a wide range of beer, rum, whisk(e)y and deliciously fruity cocktails (mule!).
The Luster likes to set Asian accents when it comes to cocktail culture. Experimental mixes made from unusual ingredients take you into new worlds of flavour in a casual atmosphere. The "Shrooming", for example, combines Japanese gin, shōchū, roasted rice and shiitake to create a fascinating flavour adventure.
In the Instagram-ready bar, the glasses are filled differently depending on the season. But there are always a few standards - after all, it's never too late for a "Horse's Neck". When it comes to signatures, it's flavour and flavour only that counts: in the "Kracherl Royal", Uhudler vermouth meets gin, plum, lemon and Champagne.
Hang out casually in the university quarter with subtle South American sounds and a real Caribbean ambience. An enormous range of cocktails is on offer, with fruit daiquiris being a favourite. Over 150 cigars come from the best growing regions in the world, whilst tortillas, tacos and burritos serve as small appetisers.
The stylish and cosy lounge bar is the perfect place to end the day - either the drinks are expertly mixed or guests can try their hand at courses. The in-house spirits from Saalfelden master distiller Siegfried Herzog, either Williams pear, gin or whisky, are also a pleasure on their own.
If you have a gourmet temple as a neighbour, you naturally have to keep up with the mixology - so it's no wonder that classics and signature drinks always come across perfectly: The "Clarified Colada" reveals the craftsmanship behind the bar, while the "Silk Road" with curry gin and kalamansi is a testament to flavour.
The "Reiss" was once a quasi founding member of the newer Viennese bar scene, but after an up and down ride in the recent past, the iconic bar is now experiencing a renaissance - thanks to extremely knowledgeable mixology: with a textbook "Basil Smash" and a "Bitter Sweet Symphony" that lives up to its name.
For bar professional and former graphic designer Jakob "Jay" Vehovar, mixing is art and the glass is a canvas for creativity. He brings the flavours into perfect balance with a keen instinct. He demonstrates this with "Diplomatico Pianos" (rosemary cordial, grape juice, red wine, hazelnut espuma). Fresh standards: Mojitos and Paloma.
Gently curved oak constructions serve as eye-catchers and at the same time ensure cosiness with a high style factor. The bar menu pays homage to the region in a creative way. The herbs from our own garden refine many an Alpine inspired drink. The classics also operate at a high level.
The beautiful old wooden furniture alone provides plenty of flair, and for the right dose of hipness there are fine cocktails (refreshing "Golden Cadillac") as well as good things from the aperitivo cosmos in a slightly modified form. "Negroni Sour" is a sundowner par excellence. Nibbles of the week are also served.
Matthias Habringer, a master of his trade, inspires with creative and subtle creations and is constantly on the hunt for unusual ingredients. He penned the "Poison Ivy" with real matcha and honey or the fresh sage and lime daiquiri - and that's just the beginning of the cocktail adventure.
Bar chef Tom Fix naturally makes his own syrups, bitters and infusions - with impressive expertise. They are then mixed classically or as a signature according to the principles of the ancient healing art of spagyric: "Immune Boost" with masterwort and "Anti-Stress" with CBD strengthen body and mind. Huge menu!
With great cocktails, good service and atmospheric music, the atmosphere is fantastic. In addition to classics and new creations such as the refreshing "Mr Espresso", the many non-alcoholic options are also tempting. There are also delicious long drinks and plenty of other spirits. Top: the gin selection.
Stylish ambience in muted colours, with casual lighting and atmospheric vibes. In summer, enjoyment moves to the terrace. The bistro kitchen adapts the dishes to the season, as do the beautifully presented cocktails with and without alcohol ("Virgin Colada"), including its own creations.
