The creative slogans on the slate at Platzl bring a smile to the faces of guests and passers-by alike. The bar team knows what it's doing - whether classic or more unusual, such as the Old Cuban Champagne cocktail. In summer, the garden opposite the Staatsbrücke is a meeting place for guests and locals alike.
The "Temple of Forbidden Rye" is a drink that makes it clear: behind the folk theatre, the fun begins with the name. The brothers Arik and Matty Vinnitsky have been raising tiki treasures (such as the "Aku Aku Lapu") for six years now and enriching the scene with new creations. The best of these are served to guests in their own mugs.
One phrase is enough to describe this bar: Cocktail World Champion 2022. Stefan Haneder won over the eight-member international tasting panel with his non-alcoholic drink "5 Elements" and set an exclamation mark. The bartender also puts his fingerprint on classic cocktails - an electrifying experience.
The best of both worlds: A friendly Grätzlbar meets the right dose of style and fine cocktails. Whether it's a strong "Black Bermuda" with the bar's own rum liqueur and Angostura or one of the more playful tiki drinks, owner Matthias Habringer knows exactly how to entice the thirsty to Ottakring.
Depending on the season, the colourful and cheerful interior turns the familiar upside down while they plough new fields of flavour, rewarding the guests' willingness to experiment with something expertly executed; would you like a "Kirsch Royal" with gin, Uhudler vermouth and Champagne? Absolutely!
Once you have found and passed the door (which can take longer at the weekend), you quickly pull out your cell phone. Edible clouds, vegan shells and smoke bubbles adorn drinks with names like "Opium Teagroni" or "Bari Ice Cream". Also cool: the flavour profile and alcohol level of the drinks are clear even before you order.
In the Madreiter family's extravagant but very cozy "living room", everything revolves around first-class drinks and spirits. The latter include their own house brand, "Lions Spirits", created by Siegfried Herzog. But the selection of aperitifs and digestifs, cocktails, whisk(e)y, rum and gin is also impressive.
Exceptional, stylish, sophisticated: on the upper floor of the Hangar-7 Gesamtkunstwerk, guests are treated to exclusive cocktails and drinks, such as signatures like the Pink Lady with Hangar-7's own gin and grapefruit liqueur. The selected classics are just as impressive as (sparkling) wine cocktails and virgins.
Retro furniture and DJ booth - that's "shoav", as the owners' baseball caps make unmistakably clear. Tarte flambée, fine espresso and a solid selection of beers (home-bottled by Wimitz!) are one side of the coin. Cocktail fun, preferably with Tommy's Hot Sauce to spice things up, is the other. A living room for everyone!
Anyone who orders the smoky house whisk(e)y sour called "The Ed" is probably a regular. Everyone else is amazed by this gem: Zoran Djurovic and "Baba" Sy have been providing the city with the finest classic cocktail art since 1996. A wonderful selection of spirits (e.g. 80 rums, 50 gins) and a stylish soundtrack - that's all you need!
The cocktail menu promises a trip around the world in the sixth district, and Sebastian Stahlschmidt and his team also know how to surprise outside of this drinks menu. A new bartender's choice cocktail is created every week, with the only house classic being the "Yugo Boss". Plus: wine selection, popular bar garden.
On the edge of the university district, it stands out pleasantly from the classic student hotspots, because partying and lounging are not contradictions here. Both the rhythms and the menu are Caribbean-Cuban: a huge selection of rum, fine cocktails, plus tacos, quesadillas and more. 150 types of cigar are also on offer.
Laura Peez and Simon Oberschick prefer to use vodka for their drinks and at the same time dig deep into their bag of tricks: The "Smoke on the Vodka" owes its depth to Swiss stone pine smoke and spruce needle liqueur, while for the "Shashlik Highball", whisk(e)y soda meets savoury sauce and pork jerky.
The lounge's cocktail performance continues to sparkle: Jay Vehovar accentuates his rum hammer "The Gift of God" with popcorn, fat-washing and homemade bitters. The "Tobacco" will delight whisk(e)y fans (who will find some rarities among the 300 spirits). The fine brandy drinks provide exciting Austro notes.
The cocktail bar may be tucked away at the end of Klammstraße, but as soon as you enter and try drinks from cocktail titans Stefan Haneder and Dušan Janjatović, you will store the bar in your geographical and sensory memory and probably find it blindfolded next time. Because every visit is worth it.
In this mixture of club, bar and lounge, classy chic is combined with a little hipness and the whole thing is then spiced up with a touch of colonial décor. What goes on behind the bar works just as well: the drinks are either skillfully classic or creative and fresh, and there is plenty of Champagne.
In the mountains of Leogang, the focus is on imaginative signatures, such as "High Mountains" with apricot brandy and apple flavour, as well as modern interpretations of classics such as Espresso Martini with Kahlua. The pleasure experience is rounded off with gin and tonics, natural wines, long drinks and sours as well as high-quality spirits.
