Andy Murray’s family hotel reopens after extensive refurbishment

Hotel News

Tennis star’s Cromlix establishment has undergone a three-month programme of renovation.

The lure of the hotel industry has proved attractive to some of the biggest names in sport, with tennis greats among those keen to get involved with their own projects.

While Rafael Nadal has recently announced plans to launch his own hotel brand, Sir Andy Murray is around a decade ahead of his great rival, with his Cromlix establishment in his hometown of Dunblane now reopened after a three-month refurbishment.

The 15-bedroom five-star country house is set across 34 acres and is owned by Sir Andy and his wife Kim, her artistic background put to good use as she led the renovations, working with interior designer Suzanne Garuda and architect Fergus Purdie. The hotel’s rebranded restaurant, the Glasshouse, is in the hands of Darin Campbell, offering a fine dining menu using locally-sourced produce and utilising the kitchen garden.

The hotel was purchased in 2013 by the couple and was the venue for their wedding in 2015, with the premises becoming self-managed by the Murray family in January this year ahead of the work being carried out.

“We have had an incredible team putting in a mammoth effort for over a year to get to today, when we can finally open the doors to our new look Cromlix,” said Kim, who studied English Literature at Sussex University before focusing on her art. “I’m extremely proud of what everybody has achieved and it is exactly what I hoped for.

“The Murray family has had a connection with this building since 1982 and after a decade of ownership we are looking forward to the future with a real sense of excitement.”

The connections with the tennis star’s family stem from his grandparents, Roy and Shirley Erskine, who held their silver wedding celebrations at the hotel in 1982. Along with the accommodation facilities, the venue also boasts its own chapel and a private loch.
