Dubai XXL: New luxury district and the world's tallest hotel
Once again, the world is watching the desert city on the Gulf. Several hotel openings are planned, as well as a new luxury residential district for 50,000 residents.
Dubai and superlatives have always gone hand in hand. Hardly any other metropolis stages itself so consistently with records and spectacular projects. Now a new generation of hotel openings and major real estate projects is joining this success story - and shows how rapidly the desert city is developing.
"Ciel Dubai Marina": luxury at lofty heights
With the "Ciel Dubai Marina", which is part of the "IHG Hotels & Resorts" portfolio, the next record-breaking project is already in the starting blocks. The new luxury hotel, which is scheduled to open in November 2025, will be the tallest hotel building in the world with a height of around 377 meters.
Designed by the Canadian architecture firm "NORR", the 82-storey building features a striking, shiny silver façade and architecture that is set to add another spectacular landmark to Dubai's skyline. Behind the façade are more than a thousand rooms and suites - all with floor-to-ceiling windows offering sweeping views over the marina, the Persian Gulf and the iconic Palm Jumeirah. One of the highlights of the hotel is the infinity pool on the 76th floor. Situated at an altitude of around 300 meters, it is likely to become one of the most photographed places in Dubai.
Big things in the south
The real estate developer Wasl has presented a gigantic master plan. An extension of the "Jumeirah Golf Estates" is being built on 4.68 million square meters in the southwest of Dubai. Over 12,000 new residential units are planned - from luxury villas and apartments to hilltop mansions - with space for more than 50,000 residents.
In addition to a new 18-hole golf course with academy, Dubai's future largest tennis stadium for 5,000 spectators and an international equestrian center, the "Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai" is to be the heart of the new luxury district.
The hotel is due to open in 2030 and will be the group's first dedicated golf resort with residences and the brand's third property in the city. However, it is not only aimed at golf enthusiasts, but also places a special focus on wellness for travelers and the residents of the new luxury district. It comprises 121 rooms and suites as well as 97 residences with three to six bedrooms and exclusive access to lounge, pool and fitness areas. The centerpiece is "The Spa at Mandarin Oriental", which combines wellness, beauty and fitness on around 5,000 square meters - from separate pools and an outdoor meditation area to a barber, salon and additional swimming pools.
