Heidi Klum and Flavio Briatore open a pizzeria in New York
Heidi Klum and Flavio Briatore have teamed up to open Crazy Pizza in New York, bringing a touch of Italy to the Big Apple.
Heidi Klum and her ex-partner, Italian entrepreneur Flavio Briatore, have stargted a new chapter in their special relationship by opening the Italian restaurant Crazy Pizza in Manhattan on November 6; the grand opening took place the previous weekend, with numerous celebrities in attendence. Their latest joint venture can be found on 218 Lafayette Street and is poised to bring some Old World flavor to New York's restaurant scene.
From couple to a business partners
In the early 2000s, the two had a short but intense relationship, culminating in the birth of their daughter Leni in 2004. Even after their separation in 2003, Klum and Briatore remained friends, with both involved in their daughter's education. Crazy Pizza, is a continuation of their relationship on a business level.
A pie for each palate – save one
Crazy Pizza offers a wide selection of traditional Italian favorites and creative pizza variations. Whether you pick the classic cheese or a Crazy Pizza original – fans of Italian cuisine are in for a treat. However, a point of contention for Klum and Briatore was the question of pineapple on pizza. Klum, who grew up eating Hawaiian pizza in Germany, wanted to put her favorite version on the menu, but met fierce resistance: "Flavio said to me: 'No way. We're not doing that'," Klum explained in an interview with People magazine. As a consolation, Heidi was served her very own pineapple pizza at the opening – however, this item will remain off the menu for the time being.
The grand opening
Crazy Pizza's opening was attended by numerous celebrities, who basked in the exuberant atmosphere. In addition to Klum's husband, German musician Tom Kaulitz, and designer Christian Siriano, the TikTok collective Elevator Boys also appeared. The guests enjoyed Italian specialties and a show performances by the waiters, who artfully twirled pizza dough through the air and created a lively atmosphere.
Heidi Klum also brought three of her four kids to the party – Briatore's biological daughter Leni, as well as Lou and Johan. Only her son Henry could not make it. "Thank you to all my new partners, family and friends for coming to celebrate the first of many Crazy Pizzas in the U.S.", Klum wrote on Instagram after the event.
