Copenhagen

When it comes to universally beloved comfort food, pizza is always at the top of the list. And in Copenhagen, you’ll find some of the best in the world—yes, even by Italian standards. We’ve curated a selection of the city’s finest pizzerias for you to enjoy.

Fluffy edges, crispy crusts, and sourdough as an art form—these are the hallmarks of Copenhagen’s exceptional pizza scene. Just like the rest of the city’s thriving culinary landscape, the beloved pies are no exception when it comes to culinary dedication and craftsmanship. In fact, some of the spots on this list even rank among the best in the world! So head out and indulge in a slice (or two) from Copenhagen’s top-tier pizza scene. Here are five outstanding spots—plus a bonus one—that are even hotter than their ovens.

Mother

Located in the Meatpacking District of Copenhagen, the Italian restaurant Mother has been drawing crowds for its wood-fired sourdough pizzas since opening in 2010. Especially on Sundays, when brunch takes center stage (though you’re welcome to order from the regular menu as well), a variety of delicacies await – pizza, of course, being one of them. The experience is enhanced by a live jazz band setting the mood while you enjoy your meal.

The pizza menu features Italian classics such as Margherita, Marinara, and Capricciosa, along with specials like the Carminuccio, which is topped with smoked bacon, as well as a seasonal pizza made with high-quality organic ingredients, either locally sourced or imported from Italy. All of these can be enjoyed with a glass of wine, locally produced beers, or cocktails. Mother is open every day from 11 AM until late, ready to satisfy your pizza cravings in Copenhagen.

BÆST

It’s easy to call yourself the best and leave it at that—but where’s the fun in that? Instead, why not call yourself Bæst (“Beast” in Danish) and serve up roaringly good pizza? Crafted with homemade cheese, house-cured charcuterie, and locally sourced organic ingredients, these pies and sides are simply artisanal works of excellence.

Bæst opened its doors in Nørrebro in 2014, founded by chef Christian Puglisi and Kim Rossen (both are also behind Relæ and Rudo). Since then, it has been a regular feature in the prestigious 50 Top Pizza guide, and currently holds a place among the best pizzerias in Europe.

Don’t miss out on their Margherita, and whatever you do, order a side of their handmade mozzarella, produced in-house at their micro-dairy using raw milk from cows roaming around  Svanholm. And see for yourself if the beast is the best!

Surt

At Surt, it’s all about the sourdough: Opened in 2019 by Giuseppe Oliva (known as Peppe), who previously worked at Bæst (see above), Surt uses local and organic ingredients combined with select imports from Italy, earning them an impressive 23rd place in 2024's 50 Top Pizza rankings—a remarkable achievement for someone who started as a sea captain before ending up in Copenhagen, getting inspired by the food scene, and seeking to reconnect with his family’s bread-making heritage.

This beloved pizzeria is located in the Carlsberg City District, formerly home to the production of the eponymous beer. If you plan to come around noon, be aware that they shift their focus to SurtPie focaccia sandwiches at lunchtime—another of their sourdough specialties, baked in trays over charcoal in their hand built stone oven.

OTTO

What started with the burger concept Jagger for former Michelin chef Rasmus Oubæk and his partner-in-crime Christian Brandt has evolved into a second street food venture—this time, under the name OTTO. But instead of burgers, it’s pizzas getting some well-deserved love.

OTTO serves Neapolitan-style pizzas, refined by Oubæk into 10 delicious variations where toppings like blue cheese, potatoes, and kale find their way onto the light and fluffy dough with spotty edges. While pizzas are, of course, best enjoyed fresh from the oven, OTTO also takes pride in its heat-at-home concept: Simply pick up one of their well-made pizzas, flash-frozen on-site within minutes, and enjoy it later in the comfort of your own four walls.

Opening in 2021, OTTO now boasts 12 locations (and counting), making it easier than ever to enjoy fantastic pizza—and at a great price to boot. Despite their rapid expansion, the quality remains just as outstanding as on day one!

Craving just one more?

Ambra

At Ambra, you won’t find traditionally sized pizzas. Here, all the love is poured into pizzetta—the smaller, snackable version. But make no mistake, it’s still quite a mouthful! Their pizzetta with pepperoni and hot honey has already become a signature dish, drawing crowds eager to enjoy its tall, fluffy crust, generously covered in finely grated parmesan. It’s a true work of art, sliced up with golden scissors.

But Ambra isn’t just about pizzettas, featured on the antipasti menu—it also offers a range of Italian specialties, including fresh pasta and crudo dishes from the sea. With an inviting interior and a striking bar at the entrance, it’s well worth visiting—not only for the atmosphere but also as a unique addition to this list of the best pizzas in Copenhagen. And with their long opening hours, you can do just that every day from1700 until late.
