Copenhagen’s Top 7 wine bars

Nordics
denmark

Despite Denmark’s strong beer culture, wine has an equally cherished place in Danish hearts. This is particularly true for natural and biodynamic wines, which you’ll find in abundance at these seven wine bars in Copenhagen. Each one offers a unique experience, making them well worth a visit.

Looking for the best wine bars in Denmark’s capital but unsure where to start? We understand – it can be quite a challenge. Not because there’s a lack of options – quite the contrary. Copenhagen has so much to offer, it’s hard to choose from so many fantastic venues. Fortunately, Falstaff has done the hard work for you. Below, you'll find the top spots where ambience meets personality, service, expertise, and, of course, outstanding wines. Many of these venues conveniently double as wine shops, allowing you to take your favorite bottles home. So, let’s embark on a journey to explore Copenhagen’s finest wine bars, starting with these recommendations.

Terroiristen

Founded in 2008 by Stefan Jensen, Terroiristen has been a pioneer in Copenhagen’s natural wine movement. Venture downstairs into their cozy and inviting space, where the collection includes intriguing bottles from Italy as well as central and eastern Europe, including Slovenia, Serbia, and Georgia. Wines can be enjoyed by the glass or bottle on-site, or purchased from their adjacent shop. On warm days, outdoor seating is available, and if you’re lucky, you might catch one of their occasional jazz concerts. Tastings are also offered for those keen to delve deeper into their collection.

Ancestrale

While Ancestrale has evolved to focus more on its role as a restaurant, it remains an essential destination for wine enthusiasts. Known for its cozy, welcoming atmosphere, it offers organic wines that pair beautifully with their seasonal, vegetable- and fish-forward small plates. The carefully curated wine list is short but focused, and head sommelier Johann Duedahl Jacobsen and his team are always on hand to recommend the perfect bottle. Since opening in 2017, Ancestrale has built an impressive wine collection—ask nicely, and you might even get a glimpse.

Lille Blå Vinbar

Feeling blue? You certainly will be after stepping into this enchanting spot! Not because of the wine – but thanks to the vibrant blue walls that give the Lille Blå Vinbar ("Little Blue Wine Bar") its name. Located in a former paint store, this charming wine bar is a sister venue to Ved Stranden 10 and the restaurant Admiralgade 26, both part of the Österreich Vin family, known for importing Austrian wine. Surrounded by wine crates and artwork, you can settle into a cozy window seat, grab a barstool, join the community table, or relax outside when the weather permits. But before you do, make your way to the bar to order your wine. As you might expect, Lille Blå Vinbar focuses primarily on Austrian wines, served in elegant, thin crystal glasses. There’s so much to love here, it just might become your new favorite spot in town.

Pompette

At Pompette, simplicity reigns. This wine bar and shop offer a concise list of wines focused on types rather than exhaustive  descriptions. For those looking to explore further, their wine room is filled with intriguing bottles available to take home or enjoy on-site for a corkage fee. Pair your wine with small plates and snacks for a complete experience. Open daily from noon until midnight, Pompette is a popular neighbourhood spot, so seating can be scarce. If there’s a wait, pop next door to Poulette for one of their famous spicy chicken sandwiches.

Rødder & Vin is a wine bar and shop that exudes warmth and community spirit. Owner and sommelier Solfinn Danielsen greets guests with an infectious smile, pouring glasses of natural wine from his carefully sourced global collection. In addition to the extensive selection of bottles on offer, they also host tastings and offer local bike delivery of wine orders. On a sunny day, enjoy a glass on the bench outside, and don’t forget to check out Danielsen’s book, Naturvin, for a deep dive into the world of natural wines.

Ved Stranden 10

The older, livelier sibling of Lille Blå Vinbar, Ved Stranden 10 has been a vibrant fixture of Copenhagen's wine scene since 2009. With no reservations or wine lists, guests simply drop in, share their preferences, and let the knowledgeable staff select a bottle from their extensive collection. The back room offers a quieter option for those seeking a more laid-back experience. Don’t miss their Onsdagssmagning (Wednesday tastings), where you can explore wines based on themes or specific producers.

Den Vandrette

Natural wine with a Georgian twist awaits at Den Vandrette, a welcoming bar located near the tranquil Nyhavn harbor. Operated by Rosforth & Rosforth, it boasts an impressive selection of natural wines from around the world, with many available by the glass. A standout item is the Khachapuri—a Georgian cheese-filled bread that pairs perfectly with the wines on offer. Be warned: it’s entrancing enough to make you come back just for it alone.

Nyhavns Champagnebodega

This extremely laid-back bar is the last place you’d expect to see a bottle of champagne being popped! At Nyhavns Champagnebodega – a sister venue to the wine bar and shop Champagnekælderen – it’s all about making champagne approachable, easy, and fun. And they deliver just that.
With cake sparklers strapped to champagne bottles and lively bingo sessions, this is as far from pretentious as it gets – a place where champagne can truly thrive. Prices start as low as 65 DKK per glass, ensuring there’s something for every budget. While you’re there, take a moment to check out the walls covered with Polaroid pictures – you might even spot a familiar face! This hidden gem, tucked away on a side street just off Nyhavn’s main drag, is well worth a visit.
