A small, family-run poke and sushi shop with a wide selection of bowls, appetizers, maki, special, premium, and crunchy rolls, as well as sashimi—amazingly fresh despite the variety. The Hawaiian-Japanese-inspired decor looks a bit cluttered, but the atmosphere is nice.

Lorettostraße 60, 40219 Dusseldorf, Germany

A small bowl shop in Oberkassel with a personal touch. Fragrant rice or noodles form the base, and you can choose from a variety of toppings—chicken, shrimp, tofu, tuna—and a sauce of your choice. Prices: fair. The ingredients are fresh, and the portions are more generous than you’d expect.

Uerdinger Straße 25, 40474 Dusseldorf, Germany

Bowl-building kit for adults. Everything is fresh, and much of it is certified organic. No one here is fobbed off with a standard menu: “Metabolic Balance,” “Protein Fit,” or—for those who can’t decide—“Mexican Taco.” Or simply put together your own bowl, just the way you like it!

Friedrichstraße 56, 40217 Dusseldorf, Germany

A bowl concept featuring fresh ingredients—ready-to-eat or customizable—at fair prices. The menu includes, among other items, a falafel bowl, a spicy chicken sandwich, and a veggie burger with halloumi and truffle mayo. It’s best to avoid delivery; takeout is recommended.

Liesegangstraße 16, 40211 Dusseldorf, Germany

A vegan fast-food restaurant with a self-service buffet at the harbor, one of two locations in Düsseldorf. The concept is simple, but the selection isn’t: Thai curry with tofu, soy stroganoff, giant beans in bell pepper sauce, cauliflower in tahini-lime sauce—all surprisingly colorful and fresh.

Since 2016, Düsseldorf-based health food pioneers Laura Müller and Issa Rahbari have been serving their guests colorful bowls, crisp salads, bagel sandwiches, crunchy French toast, sinfully delicious pancakes, waffles, Eggs Benedict, and much more. —at four locations, 365 days a year.

A lovely deli-café on Carlsplatz that’s a pioneer in health food: smoothies, pancakes, bowls, and banana bread all clearly aim to be superfoods. Unfortunately, the service and execution don’t always live up to what this otherwise interesting concept promises. On good days, though, the food tastes great!

International Cuisine

A bowl franchise with two locations in Düsseldorf: one in Medienhafen with a floor-to-ceiling glass front, and one in Pempelfort with a slightly cozier atmosphere. In addition to a variety of ready-to-order bowls, there are a handful of wraps. If you have any special requests, you can customize your own bowl.

Hammer Straße 19, 40219 Dusseldorf, Germany

A fast-casual chain with a location on Immermannstraße in Düsseldorf—simple, practical, and generally solid to good. The bowls, wraps, and salads are fresh, nutritious, and available for delivery. Unfortunately, the portion sizes have been steadily shrinking.
