RITZ-CARLTON COMES TO ZERMATT

The hotel chain is planning a luxury resort on the Matterhorn.

At the foot of the highest mountains in the entire Alpine arc of Switzerland is the first chalet luxury resort in a European Skiing area planned. The Ritz-Carlton Zermatt will be located on the western slope above Zermatt and will offer a direct view of the Matterhorn.

First ski resort in Europe

Hotel owner Mario Julen has signed a contract with the luxury brand Marriott International (7500 hotels in 132 countries, 30 hotel brands) for The Ritz-Carlton Zermatt. It will be the first resort complex of an international hotel chain to be built in the car-free mountain village of Zermatt. A project close to the heart for the Zermatt native: "This is a very emotional project that has kept me busy for 13 years. It is a declaration of love to my homeland, but also to the top hotel industry in general"the owner says proudly. A milestone not only for Mario Julen, but also for the international luxury hotel chain. After The Ritz-Carlton Geneva, it is only the brand's second hotel in Switzerland and the very first ski resort in Europe.

69 rooms and suites with Matterhorn view

Located on the western slope and facing south, the highlight will be the direct view of the Matterhorn from all rooms and suites as well as the two restaurants and bars. The large outdoor terrace also offers a panoramic view of an iconic mountain backdrop. Other attractions include a private dining room, direct access to the slopes via a ski-in/ski-out principle, a spa with indoor/outdoor pools and a fitness room. The luxury hotel will also offer conference and event rooms.

Modern design with alpine flair

Three key aspects played a central role in the design of the luxury project: Texture, light and color. The renowned Parisian architectural firm AW² won the deal and is now responsible for the design and implementation of the complex. The contemporary interior, with a combination of local wood and stone, pays homage to the charm of the local mountain chalets. The opening of The Ritz-Carlton Zermatt is planned for 2026.
