The 5 Most Popular Surf Spots in Portugal

Paddling towards the waves, then standing up at the right moment and gliding over the white spray while standing on the board - surfing is a way of life and Portugal is the perfect place for it. These are the most beautiful surf spots.

Ericeira

A bit more south than Nazaré and Peniche and about 45 minutes by car from the center of Lisbon, lies the fishing village of Ericeira. Surfers appreciate the region because of the many different surf spots and breathtaking beaches with super high waves. Not only professionals are welcome here, but also junior surfers will find perfect spots with more harmless waves to get on the board and hone their skills.

Lisbon

If you like surfing in front of a crowd and want the hustle and bustle just around the corner, Praia de Carcavelos is the place for you. The popular beach belongs to the Portuguese capital Lisbon and is only about 25 minutes away from the city center. Here you can train on moderate waves before enjoying city life. A great way to combine both worlds.

Sagres

Surfers from all over the world are drawn not only to the north of Portugal, but also to the southwestern tip of the country, where conditions are perfect for riding consistently moderate waves. Here, too, you can enjoy the sheer endless choice of beaches in all directions and plenty of space to practice. And if you've had enough of surfing, there are plenty of other water sports to choose from.
