Listrac is located immediately to the north of the small Moulis region. Although the area is just under 1,400 hectares, there are actually only 700 hectares under vine. Listrac is thus one of the smallest communal origins of the Médoc. To the north, Listrac borders directly on the vineyards of the famous commune of Saint-Julien. Listrac does not have any classified vineyards according to the classification of 1855, which is mainly due to the fact that the châteaux wanted to have less to do with it. Instead, 29 châteaux were classified as Cru Bourgeois in 1932. The vines here are mainly on gravel soils and calcareous clay, but in contrast to their neighbour Moulis, hardly on sand. The location away from the riverbank protects the grapes from rot, so they reach a good stage of ripness in the autumn. The soils have good water drainage due to their high gravel content. The grape variety mix here does not deviate from the typical one of the Haut-Médoc.
