Champagne Henriot

Falstaff Online 2022

The family can trace its history in viticulture back to the 16th century, but its Champagne history only begins after a move from the Loire to Champagne with the founding of the Henriot Champagne house in 1808 by Apolline Henriot. And again it was a widow who wrote Champagne history here. Through the marriage of Paul Henriot with Marie Marguet in 1880, the very best Chardonnay sites came into the possession of the house. But by then the name Henriot already enjoyed great weight and fame. Because in the meantime Henriot had succeeded in becoming the house and court supplier of the Dutch royal family as well as of Emperor Franz Joseph I. The "Brut Souverain" is a tribute to this great coup. After very turbulent times in the 1970s and 1980s with one or other change of ownership, the house has now been sailing in calm waters for some time and is run as a family business in the 8th generation by Stanislas Henriot. The qualities remain consistent and a legacy of the old class. Henriot has 35 hectares of vineyards at his disposal. They are planted mainly with Chardonnay, which also dominates the cuvées and is supplemented by Pinot Noir. The third grape variety permitted for Champagne, Pinot Meunier, is not used. The portfolio includes the "Brut Souverain" without vintage, the Blanc de Blancs Brut, a 100% Chardonnay, and a Rosé Brut. Of course, a Vintage is made when justified. The top is the rare prestige cuvée "Cuvée des Enchanteleurs", which is produced exclusively in excellent years.
