A Champagne dynasty emerged from the house of Charles Heidsieck, which was founded by the Westphalian-born Florenz-Ludwig Heidsieck.
No less than three houses adorned themselves with the name Heidsieck, one of which is the Champagne house Piper-Heidsieck. It was founded after the death of Florence-Ludwig Heidsieck by his nephew Christian Heidsieck in collaboration with Henri-Guillaume Piper.
The production of high-quality Champagne came so easily to the two that they quickly became suppliers to more than ten imperial and royal courts in Europe. Well into the 20th century, the house cultivated its good reputation and, among other projects, sought collaboration with artists.
In the film "Desert Sons," comedians Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel fight over a bottle of the precious sparkler, and later Marylin Monroe is said not to have been averse to a glass or two of Piper-Heidsieck. Since the mid-1990s, Piper-Heidsieck has also been the house and court Champagne of the famous Cannes Film Festival. Today, Piper-Heidsieck is one of the best-known Champagne brands, and its eye-catching label design with its bright red is also highly recognisable on retailers' shelves.
After 2000, the star oenologist Regis Camus was responsible for the quality of the house. He was replaced in 2018 by the no less brilliant Émilien Boutillat. No effort is spared here in pursuit of outstanding quality; the cuvée is created from up to 50 individual vineyards, all harvested and vinified separately.
Of course, the whole range of Champagnes is available here, from vintageless Brut in white or rosé to Vintage and Brut Réserve. With the "Brut Sauvage", Piper Heidsieck also launched one of the first undosed Champagnes of modern times, and the prestige cuvée "Rare" is one of the best in this precious category. Piper-Heidsieck Champagnes have won many medals in competitions and comparative tastings. In addition, the house was named "Best Champagne House of the World" in 2021, and Émilien Boutillat was named "Sparkling Winemaker of the Year".
