It was only a matter of time before vines started growing again on the Buchertberg. The Herrenhof in Markt Hartmannsdorf is a historic estate of Vorau Abbey. Even the canons - hence the name Herrenhof - appreciated the qualities of the south-facing location in the hilly volcanic landscape. In 1913, the property passed into the ownership of the Lamprecht family, but after several changes of ownership, viticulture came to a complete standstill. The Buchertberg has only been cultivated again since 2006 - consistently according to organic guidelines.
The soils are light and characterized by calcareous sandstone, silt and gravel. Pinot Blanc, Furmint, an extremely diverse Gemischter Satz and Pinot Noir form the backbone of the range. The return of Furmint, formerly known in Styria as "Mosler", is particularly noteworthy. A specialty of the house is the traditional Styrian Gemischter Satz "Buchertberg Weiß", which is vinified from over 100 historical grape varieties, some of which are rare. The idea behind it: a terroir wine that derives its identity not from a single variety, but from its origin.
The red wines also show the potential of the region: Pinot Noir and a Blaufränkisch-based Gemischter Satz set striking accents. The wines are matured 100% in wooden barrels, around half of which are made from oak from the estate's own forest. The wines mature slowly and with as little intervention as possible, because "this is the only way to create wines that really make their origin tangible," says Gottfried Lamprecht. They can be tasted in the atmospheric ambience of the historic wine cellar.
